THE LANDSCAPE, OBSERVED WITH PATIENCE
I create photographs of the natural landscape that reflect moments of beauty, stillness, and change. I am particularly drawn to the waterfalls, rivers, and forests of the Appalachian and Southeastern landscape.
I approach photography with patience, often returning to a place many times and waiting for the right conditions to reveal its unique character. These landscapes possess a sense of age, atmosphere, and quiet beauty that continues to inspire me. The movement of water, the changing light beneath the trees, and the constantly shifting weather mean that a familiar place can look and feel entirely different from one moment to the next.
Often, the most meaningful moments are not immediately visible, but reveal themselves through time, observation, and a willingness to simply be present. Returning to these places again and again allows me to experience them in new ways and discover details I may have previously overlooked.
My hope is that when someone brings one of my photographs into their home, it becomes more than simply an image on the wall. I want it to create a connection to the place and allow them, if only for a moment, to feel as though they are standing where I stood when the photograph was made—beside a river, beneath the trees, or in front of a waterfall.
I hope they can imagine the atmosphere of that moment: the sound of moving water, the changing light, the quiet of the forest, and the sense of wonder I felt while standing within the landscape. If a photograph can allow someone to experience even a small part of that feeling from their own home, then it has accomplished what I hope my work can achieve.
